“I’ve only ever made one dubstep track and I will admit I only did it because it was cool at the time.”
Whether it’s ripping on Pauly D or ranting against Madonna, Deadmau5 hasn’t exactly been shy about what he thinks are other people’s shortcomings. But in a recent interview with CBC’s Q Radio Show (via Spinner), the most outspoken EDM artist looks in the mirror… and does not like what he sees.
“I’ve only ever made one dubstep track and I will admit I only did it because it was cool at the time,” said Mau5. “I’m not a fan of dubstep, but I figured ‘Okay, well I’m sure I can engineer something that’s palatable or on par with the whole Skrillex thing that everyone is into.”’
Solidifying his role as either the greatest or worst person ever (because there is no nuance or grey area on the Internet), Deadmau5 admitted to the dreaded s-word. “I sold out on one track—that would be me admitting yes, I absolutely sold out because I did it for the popularity factor and that kind of thing.”
The producer/DJ also clarified, and hopefully ended, his entertaining feud with Madonna, who Deadmau5 took issue with earlier this year for making drug references at Ultra Music Festival. “I’m wearing this mouse head and I’m watching kids get carried out by paramedics over the front railing and I’m playing. Sometimes I just want to stop the show, it’s not cool and I really don’t like it and it upsets me. So for her to just go with it and have a great time. I just thought, f**k it and give her a blast because it’s f**ked up.”
Don’t ever change, Deadmau5.
