Bloc Festival Cancelled

The electronic music festival, Bloc has been cancelled after unrest last night made it impossible to continue.

Our man has re-emerged from the madness and said that the festival in London’s Docklands had struggled to cope with the size of the crowds that were there.

From the start he tells us that it was totally overcrowded – this is not the first festival to report these problems, The Stone Roses at heaton park last week had reported the same problems with some exit points being dangerously overcrowded at night and bars getting rushed because the queues were too long. At Bloc each tent and event was full to capacity with long queues outside creating tension which resulted in the trouble.

The police turned up and there was a lot of confusion our man reports, with the resulting decision to close down the festival coming from the festival promoters themselves.

The battle on twitter was interesting with punters on the site complaining of the bottlenecks and the tension and the promoters tweeting that all was fine on the site. It was the first time that Bloc had been held outside a holiday resort, with Pontin’s in Hemsby and Butlin’s in Minehead having hosted the festival in previous years.

Bloc have put a statement on their website stating..

By now everyone will have heard that Bloc 2012 was closed due to crowd safety concerns. We are all absolutely devastated that this happened, but the safety of everyone on site was paramount. Given the situation on the ground, we feel that it was the right decision to end the show early. Bloc will not open on Saturday 7th July so please don’t come to the site. Stand by for full information on refunds.”

Ironically the name for the festival ticket company was ‘Crowd Surge’ … might be a good idea to change this.

There is talk of setting up an alternative festival this weekend- keep your eyes peeled…
